With my epic exploration of New York City’s food culture in full swing, I decided to link up with some friends to explore the local Chinese food scene! Come along with me as we go on the ultimate Chinese food tour of Chinatown in Flushing, Queens, NYC!

For this Chinese food adventure, I linked up with my friends Ming and Ben from The Bing Buzz. We’d be experiencing some of the best food in one of New York City’s two Chinatowns; the other one is in Manhattan! They say this one is better in terms of food!

We started at Xing Fu Tang, a Taiwanese spot that sells boba, or bubble tea! Its name translates to Happy Joy Temple. Inside, they have 18 varieties of boba to choose from. Ben and I went with the Brown Sugar Boba Milk, and Ming chose the Matcha Boba Milk!

Boba is a creamy tea and milk drink that contains tapioca balls. It reminded me of a latte and contained brown sugar and caramel. It was really refreshing but filling, and very sweet!

Next, we headed to White Bear to have spicy pork wontons, which are bathed in chili oil. They also have 33 other items, but the spicy wontons (#6 on the menu) is by far the most popular. They’re also topped with scallions!

The wontons are soft, moist, and oily, and have a lot of flavor. They’re not insanely spicy, especially when compared to Sichuan cuisine. It has a nice kick, too, maybe a 5/10 on the spice level. The oily sauce was good enough to drink!

But we had to save room, because next, we headed to get some curry fish balls at Fu Yuan on Roosevelt Avenue. They’re topped with soy sauce, sriracha, and sesame seeds. They’re deep-fried and then boiled with curry sauce. I loved the spicy curry sauce, which reminded me of the gochugaru sauce used in tteok-bokki!

We followed that with a tea egg, which are eggs boiled in tea, soy sauce, and other spices. They’re boiled for hours and are savory and light on the tea flavor. I couldn’t taste the tea, but they’re good! Then, we visited an amazing Asian supermarket!

Inside, I picked up a monstrous live lobster. They also have crabs, live fish, fresh fish, huge clams, and more. We bought a Honey White Gourd Drink, which was a little refreshing and sweet.

Then, we got some Peking duck in sweet buns with green onions and hoisin sauce. It was beautiful and the onion and hoisin sauce were delicious. It was sweet and savory!

Then, we headed into a nearby mall’s food court, where you can find lots of Asian restaurants. Unfortunately, a lot of them were closed due to the pandemic. So we headed back out to Joe’s Steam Rice Rolls, for Cantonese beef rice rolls and shrimp & egg rice rolls.

They’re served drowning in soy sauce along with scallions, corn, and sesame seeds. They were so tasty and fell apart in my mouth! It’s a silky, steamed dough with flavorful sauce, hearty shrimp, and tasty egg. But it’s also quite messy!

The beef in the other rolls were really tender. I couldn’t get enough of them. This was my favorite dish of the tour so far!

Our final spot was Legend Chicken to have Taiwanese popcorn chicken. You can also choose your spice level. It contains red pepper and spinach, and you eat them with a wooden skewer.

It was crunchier than regular popcorn chicken, with a crumbly exterior. The addition of the spinach was really nice and the chicken was super juicy!
